Check out the threads "Are these circuits OK" currently on page 5, "Stupid Keyboard Question" on page 7, and "Switches" on page 8 for some stuff on this subject.
There is a whole site with an explanation of "hacking" a keyboard. I can't remember it right now.... but I'll see what I can do.
A keyboard is actually a "matrix" of connections. Each button is defined by it's position on the row and column. The wiring is simple once you figure it out.... and bring the actual connections to some sort of breakout box instead of the pcb.
