VR headsets

Postby cgwilson » Tue Jul 19, 2016 8:17 pm

HI

I just purchased an Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset and I am totally blown away how much it transforms the FSX/P3D experience. I have been flying sims for a loooooong time and I also fly as a PPL and assure you that the immersion feeling it gives you is incredible. Anyone else have one?

I've read a lot about them and frankly can't wait to get one myself - but the price right now seems pretty prohibitive.

Which one do you have - CV1 or DK2? CV1 is as expensive as a decent PC.

We've had a couple of threads about VR headsets - I'll see if I can find them.

Would love to hear more but undoubtedly this is the way forward for PC Flight Simulation

I am guessing you are running the CV1.
I just looked at used versions on ebay but then saw a PC compatibility check and here are my results (quite an old PC but it runs FSX and P3d smoothly without any issues, freezing, pausing or tweeks with most things turned up or maxed) ... so I guess I will have to wait for a bit.

Sorry for the delayed response - just got back from a trip back to the UK and a visit to Duxford and Shuttleworth. :0)

Yes you do need a good spec PC but it is well worth it. When I first got FSX up and running and started off with a Spitfire it was like sitting in the real thing - I have sat in a few in my time. Even flying it doing aeros makes the tummy quezy as you get the feel of speed and height etc

I think we are at the start of an explosion in this new form of entertainment- something that will transform P3D or FSX .. or whatever simulator ... in fact our digital interactive experience in general!

I'm going to hold back for now and wait to see what emerges -

.. but one thing is for sure ..... sooner rather than later .. I'm in!

I think FSX was ahead of it's time. Now P3D (or maybe Steam) is the current FSX and with VR headsets -- it's really just about to come into it's own.
