It's been a while since I mentioned this C-47 work in progress. Few, if any, will probably remember it.

It seems to be taking forever to get it done, but when it is done .....

Can't wait!

Just how well detailed is it?

I'd say that there is some detail there.






Does it have a removable fire extinguisher cover, with working extinguisher switch underneath?



As far as I know, it doesn't require a pilots license. Yet.

how cool, wish my 2 year secret project looked as good that, but, I can only work the files created by somebody else so I'm limited as to what I can do.

I've about got most of em' done , have about 2 more to Texture, then package up in a Zip file and let you all have them

but, I've got things to do, that keeps me from finishing them as quick as I'd like, - like mowing this huge yard constantly

and all the other daily things

hopefully in june or therafter i'll be able to kick em' all to ya' all .

till then, I gotta go mow

Sadly they have 14 cylinders on the radial...
Radial engines always have an ODD number of cylinders.
This is to facilitate the firing order which skips every other cylinder.

Just an observation though..

Yes and No - Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp, two rows of 7 cylinders.

The Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp was an American aircraft engine widely used in the 1930s and 1940s. Produced by Pratt & Whitney, it was a two-row, 14-cylinder, air-cooled radial design. It displaced 1,830 cu in (30.0 L) and its bore and stroke were both 5.5 in (140 mm). A total of 173,618 R-1830 engines was built,[1] and from their use in two of the most-produced aircraft ever built, ...

I will admit that I've seen a somewhat better shading on the aft cylinders in one or two planes..

BTW - The movement that you'll see from inside the cockpit (starting about 50 sec. into the video) is natural in Prepar3d V3.3.5. You aren't flying through a airless box anymore. Depending on the size/mass of your aircraft, and the wind, your plane will be moved by the wind. Also note that it's not just the scenery moving within the windshield, the (your) point of view is also moving within the cockpit. It's very subtle but a very nice touch.

Yes this really is a stunning bit of work. I can't wait to fly it. The superb cockpit and sounds brings back so many of my DC-3 memories from years ago. I will fly it a lot on long trips.

Has the penny dropped?
So what I was seeing is actually NOT 1 row x 14 cylinders, but instead 2 rows of 7. (Which just looked wrong perhaps from the dead front view.)
After a good look at the videos, I can clearly see my mistake..

I must be honest, I did think it very strange that with so much great effort and time investment, that they would get the engines wrong...MY BAD and my apologies to the team.
Like many others on here, I too am seriously looking forward to this release.

I'd think that, in a simulation, the back row would have to be artificially darkened to make the two rows more distinguishable as being fore and aft in a head-on picture.

BTW - With the exception of the engines, and a few minor details, the exterior is basically the same V2 aircraft that you can download right now - FSX Douglas C-47 Skytrain Package V2

The "BIG deal" is in the cockpit details. I hope that no one finds this disappointing.

A word to the wise...

Since v.3 has just been released @ SOH, everybody and their next of Kin are racing to Download the .zip File, causing the SOH Server to bog down and become slow. If you're interested in this Add On, please be patient... everyone who wants it will eventually get one.

Don't be like the impatient Simmers at the 'other' FS Sites, who are bashing SOH, crying and moaning because they cannot Download v.3 or cannot gain access to the SOH site.
