You can not escape from "The Rock", as it is commonly known. Alcatraz was a high security federal prison from 1934 to 1963. The main prison building was constructed from 1910 to 1912.
It housed 1,576 total prisoners who continually caused trouble at other federal prisons. 36 prisoners made 14 attempts to escape The Rock; none are known to have survived
