The High and the Mighty

The High and the Mighty movie from 1954

I painted up this Lockheed L-188 of KBT Teams with Actor John Waynes Photo on it, its a better Aircraft anyway than that ol' ugly DC4 they were using.

The original Movie back in 1954, seems like 100 years ago, used a Douglas DC-4 rented from Trans Ocean Lines for the movie.

I've never seen the movie, looks kinda corny if ya ask me, maybe its not ?????

But hey its John Wayne !

High Flying Adventure they say :shock:

The Vintage Lockheed Electra L-188 Propliner , original from Team KBT - can be found right here on Simviation for FREE.

L188 Link : http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=ELECTRA&categoryId=&page=1&filename=

You want the one at the TOP with the Ansett livery, by Chris Evans, the go search for all the repaints.

Alright - Pilgrams, I got a Propliner to Fly , see ya'll later !!!

Yes, iit was kinda corny, but part of that was because John Wayne was playing John Wayne, if you know what I mean.

Small note: my first wife's father, Leroy Holmes, had the hit record of the movie's theme song, whistling and all. He was an employee of the music company and never made a dime from the sales; a real pity, because it was the probably the best thing he ever did. Such is life...

Also remember that in the movie much of the dramatic tension is built around the fact that the JW character is the co-pilot, not the Captain.

A great, and not-so-far-from-the-truth poem written by Keith Murray back in the day...

THE COPILOT

I am the copilot. I sit on the right.
It's up to me to be quick and bright;
I never talk back for I have regrets, But I have to remember what the Captain forgets.

I make out the Flight Plan and study the weather,
Pull up the gear, stand by to feather;
Make out the mail forms and do the reporting,
And fly the old crate while the Captain is courting.

I take the readings, adjust the power,
Put on the heaters when we're in a shower;
Tell him where we are on the darkest night,
And do all the bookwork without any light.

I call for my Captain and buy him cokes;
I always laugh at his corny jokes,
And once in awhile when his landings are rusty
I always come through with, "By gosh it's gusty!"

All in all I'm a general stooge,
As I sit on the right of the man I call "Scrooge";
I guess you think that is past understanding,
But maybe some day he will give me a landing.

A final word. When I was flying professionally – 48 years worth – the last item on the After Landing Checklist was always: "Nice Landing, Captain!"

Ya I could upload it, but ,,, I have to repaint the interior 1st , I repaint all interiors most generally on these L-188's of KBT'S,,, to something more fitting.

in this case I have a few ideas to fit the movie and the actor.

I have about 7 interior repaints done for these KBT L-188's,,, so far, with more to go.

think if you look under Aircraft repaints in the forums section, you'll see some of my previous photos I've posted in the forums.

quite tideous work actually.

get to it one of these days, still working on another interior repaint for the A380 I'll be uploading soon hopefully.

Yip, me too !!

its a time consuming work, and I'm limited on how far I can go with a file, since I'm not the one who made the file, I have to work with what I have.

but heres a few of what I've done, as in a previous post on my Lockheed L-188 Propliners

some before and after shots, think I've done 4 or 5 more since this post tho.

Great Job Jetranger. The interior looks a 100 percent better.

You don't see many interior repaints.

Best regards

Ta' Ta' Tank You !!

You should see the A380 passenger cabin Interior repaints I'm workin on with Neon lighting !!!

time consuming !!

for me to do 1 L-88 Interior repaint and hopefully get it to come out just 75% right tho I shoot for 90% , it usually takes me around a full 8 to 12 hours to do just 1 repaint on an interior, that includes research for materials I'd like to use and studing and then testing it to see IF it'll even work with the file I've got to work worth.

many times the way the file is made, it'll severely distort the textures all outta whack and ruin the whole idea I had.

then its start over, or, just leave it alone and move on to something else.

lotta testing and retesting to see how it looks and what I could do better than what I did,,, one of those better mouse trap thingys I have goin, always a better Mouse Trap,,, if I can just think of one ??????

I sure wish I could create repaints. Even if
I knew how I am unable too sit for extended
periods due to extreme pain in my spine.

It should be interesting to see the 380.

All the best

Pain in the Spine ???

know that feeling, only mine was a Sciatic Nerve problem, which caused me to sit, how I got into painting to take my mind off the pain back in 2010 / 2011

I ok now way better !!!

I ended up healing myself eventually,,, no use of meds either !

I better'd my Diet with lots of fresh fruits & vegetables everyday, plenty of good quality rest sleep, and took Vitamin "B-12", everyday for 3 months , ya can get B-12 at about any good grocery store.

I'd take 1 tablet in the morning and 1 in the evening, and keep off my feet as much as possible and sit right too so as not to put pressure on that sciatic nerve.

Took 3 months before I started getting better, where I could actually stand and walk for extended periods, but I'm way better now.

I still keep up the regiment of B-12 and eating fresh fruits and veggies often and a Big Juicy Steak too and Sea food once in a while !!

Diet has a lot to do with your body and proper rest too !!

Hi Jetranger.

My problem is a bit different. Many years ago I suffered a broben back
playing Hockey. Just after it healed I was hit by a car in the back on the
way to school. We had to walk on the roadside as the snowplows had
just cleared the road. The sidewalks were 30 ft. deep so the road was
the only answer.

Many more bat fall etc. made it worse. I have abnormal bone growth on
the vertibrate and it has locked my spine. Coupled with having Spinal
Endosis it is crushing my spinal cord.

At the end of last year I suffered a Heart attack and they managed to save
my life by opening an Artery. I then had a triple BY-pass, that damaged
my spine even more.

BTW. I am now a Vegetarian and have a strict diet. 6 Veg + 2 fruit a day.

I avoid Trans Fats like the Plague.

Thank you for telling me your story.

Anthin.
