Microlight Fair 2016

Postby Hagar » Sun May 01, 2016 6:22 am

Despite a discouraging weather forecast I ventured down to Popham airfield yesterday for the first day of the annual Microlight Fair. I've learned from bitter experience not to take too much notice of the forecasters & was proved correct once again as it was a lovely day with light winds & plenty of sunshine.

Due to the awful weather affecting most weekends over the last few months this was the first aviation event I've attended this year. I'm quite pleased with the results. Here's a few shots to give some idea of the variety of attending aircraft, not all microlights. 8-)

..its what Sim Flying is all about!...

...all those fun little aeroplanes.... ...!

I cant remember, in all my 16+ years of daily Microsoft Flight Simming, ever loading up and "flown" a large aluminium passenger cigar tube!

I much prefer all the little planes!

The sort of aircraft that most Pilots could afford to own, run, and, fly!.... :D ...!

Thanks for the comments. Attendance was a tad disappointing, no doubt due to unsettled conditions in other parts of the country. These events depend so much on the weather as visiting aircraft can arrive from all parts of the UK & Europe. Despite that it was an enjoyable day out & my photos in this topic are only a small selection to show what goes on. I've uploaded some more to my new Flickr account if anyone is interested. https://flic.kr/s/aHskz5717u

Weather guessers here are just as unreliable. My approach...look out the window. :D Super photos Doug! Thanks for uploading them. There's some very interesting machinery aloft.

Thanks for taking us along Doug...fine set of shots...

Looks like a cool dry summer for us...lack of rain has farmers worrying about watering their livestock in our local area and lack of snow has not done the wells any good...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Nice shots Doug. Every year, microlights are looking more and more like mainstream production aircraft when you compare them back to the beginning of modified hang gliders.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

My favorite photo. was the Grumman Tiger. I used to just LOVE flying the Tiger and also the Grumman Cheetah. Really great airplanes that gave good cruise speeds with minimal fuel burn. Great visibility and superb handing.
