Airbus can't Sell A380'S ????

Postby Jetranger » Sat Jul 09, 2016 4:55 pm

Airbus is running out of buyers for its enormous A380s

Since its commercial introduction in 2007, the Airbus A380 has brought a long-lost sense of glamour back to travel. Its first-class cabins feature private showers and buttery leather armchairs. It sports in-flight lounges where bartenders mix bespoke cocktails. A broad staircase reminiscent of a 1920s ocean liner links the two decks. Financially speaking, it’s a disaster of similarly grand proportions.

Not a single U.S. carrier has bought one, and Japanese airlines, among the biggest cheerleaders for huge planes, have taken just a handful. Airbus has delivered 193 A380s—early on it predicted airlines would buy 1,200 supersize planes over two decades—and has only 126 in its order book, to be built over the next five years or so. Worse, many orders appear squishy, because airlines are shifting away from superjumbos.

Mr Jet, your button isn't working so I sent you a couple of bays of these. Should be about 1,000 in each bag.

Just be sure that you pass it face up. The other side says "Eat at Bill's Seafood".

The two bags of money came from Bill's widow. She said that he died very sudenly in some kind of girls bar.

Maybe it was a Girls Girsl Girls Bar.

Somethin like that anyway.

We are in a fast changing world & I love it.

Soon the majority of new cars will be largely composite structure and efficient electric power .....

There will probably be a severe cost of the old carbon fuels & maybe also road taxes .... so you can still run you old piston engine but it will cost as much as a plane or helicopter to run for any lengthly journey .....

Meanwhile it was interesting from that article to see hourly cost on different aircraft.

We really are moving into the lightweight aircraft like A350 and B787's - both are beautiful to look at flying overhead

(using flightradar24 - a great ap!)

I wouldn't write it off yet. The major European airlines operate it as to the big Middle Eastern carriers and some in the Far East. The fact no American carriers use it indicates the reluctance to buy Airbus if they don't have too, and maybe that some US carriers maybe have less secure financial platform than the Middle East (bottomless pit). think it would unfair to directly compare it to the 747, as I don't think the volume for super jumbos really exists in an age of ETOPS and with the ability to fit more and more people into the same sized tube. What will be interesting to see is whether the order book starts becoming filled with renewal orders in the next 5-10 years as the fleet matures.

UPDATE to original story posted above coming out now a few days later

Airbus A380 Rate Cut May Mark "Beginning of End" for Superjumbo

I always thought it was an Ugly plane to begin with !!

Airbus Group SE announced a drastic cut in production of its flagship A380 superjumbo, acknowledging that demand has "fallen far short" of original projections and raising the prospect of the world’s biggest passenger plane being prematurely "axed".

The build rate for the double-decker, less than a decade in commercial operation, will be slashed by more than half to one plane a month by 2018, Airbus revealed Tuesday.

Even with Airbus seeking to reduce program costs to allow the A380 to remain viable at lower production levels, the severity of the planned rate cut -- which Airbus says will put future output “in line with the current order intake” -- suggests the program is on the brink of a terminal decline.

It won’t recover from this,” said Richard Aboulafia, an aviation consultant at Teal Group in Fairfax, Virginia. “The new rate is seriously uneconomic; therefore it will die in a few years !

The seating reminds me of going to the movies, except that the seats won't be that comfortable.

One of the last few times that I flew (in economy) I had a college football player sitting next to me. NEITHER of us fit in out seats.
