In the link to Fozzers post about pilot James Lacey ("A blast from the past") there's a reference to "Biggles adventure books".
So the flashbacks kicked in:
There's a line in Jethro Tull's 'Thick As a Brick' that I've always wondered about, strange, because I usually didn't give a hoot back then about meaning or whatever behind lyrics:
"Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday?"
So here's the mystery solved:

About 100 books total.
And if you Google 'Biggles adventure books', you can see a bunch of covers.
And here also:

But they're not comic book formats, they're stories with B/W illustrations & some color picts.

The cover art is reminiscent of the Classics Illustrated comics, many of which are now available free online, but I can't find any free Biggles books.
Our British friends probably already know/knew this, but it's news to me.
Thanks for that post, Foz.
Cheers!
