Plane Resurrection

Postby Tug002 » Thu Feb 02, 2017 6:54 pm

I am not usually one to plug anything but for those of you that are interested in aircraft rebuilds I have come across a documentary on Netflix Canada called Plane Resurrection. The first aircraft is a rebuild of a P-51. Have not watched it all yet but so far so good.

Keep smiling

I will have to check that out. I had heard of this series but had forgotten it was on NetFlix (which I have recently got)

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

The presenter is Maurice Hammond* who sadly crashed his P-51D "Janie" featured in that first episode. His passenger was killed & he was badly hurt.

Thanks Tug, I'm watching as I type. I had to sedate my wife so I'll likely get to watch a couple episodes before she wakes.

I saw an advert for this on Discovery Channel the other night whilst doing the ironing, looks like one of them will be the recent Hurricane restoration. Should be good!

Checked my Netflix (Germany) and it is not in the listings although it is identified in the search list.....
Anyone know any Netflix tricks to watch content from other countries....?

I enjoyed the P-51 show. Obviously it was a little contrived as the aeroplane actually flew several years before the programme was made. Maurice came across as a real genuine enthusiast (runs in the family - his daughter flies their Harvard) and it was interesting to see how his tool and component manufacturing business blossomed into the UK's leading Merlin specialist!

Hopefully he'll make a few recovery and will fly again.

Several years ago Flight 1 released a P-51 add-on that features his aircraft, along with several additional repaints. The documentation in the box is very informative and I believe his daughter is one of the few female pilots on the UK rated in the P-51. Probably one of the few in the world. I watched the show and immediately loaded up his Janie for a few laps around the San Juan Islands.
