FAKE NEWSFake news is a big topic over here in the US. Just what constitutes "fake news" depends on ones personal point of view.
Today I noticed a number of "
Antarctica is Melting" news stories.
A massive conduit of hot water was detected last year, measuring around 10 kilometres wide and 1 kilometre deep in front of the western side of the Totten Glacier.
Where is the "
Totten Glacier"? It's part of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet.
Scientists have expressed deep concern on the matter. As per The TeCake, the lead author of the study, Steve Rintoul said, “now it has become extremely-essential to know how the warm water in reaching and affecting the ice glacier of Antarctic.
"...extremely-essential to know how the warm water in reaching and affecting the ice glacier of Antarctic..."Also in that "news" story -
This has resulted in the ice to melt abnormally, which in turn has caused global sea levels to rise approximately 3.5 meters in the past couple of years.
"
...3.5 meters in the past couple of years." The
GLOBAL sea levels have risen 11.4 FEET!!!!
And NOBODY noticed it Where is all that warm water coming from It's interesting that NONE of the "news" reports mention volcanism under the
East Antarctic Ice Sheet, or the
Thwaites Glacier. It's almost like no one has ever heard of such a thing.
If you're interested - East Antarctic volcanosThis is old news, however, if you want something lese scientific, but easier to read -
Hidden Volcanoes Melt Antarctic Glaciers from BelowSo is all this pointless? No. If any of the volcanos under all that ice were to have a major eruption, the world could be in deep do-do.
But there are a lot of other major catastrophes just waiting to happen -
Yellowstone Supervolcano, for one. Not to mention asteroid or comet strikes in the Atlantic or Pacific oceans.
The term “supervolcano” implies an eruption of magnitude 8 on the Volcano Explosivity Index, indicating an eruption of more than 1,000 cubic kilometers (250 cubic miles) of magma.
Yellowstone has had at least three such eruptions: The three eruptions, 2.1 million years ago, 1.2 million years ago and 640,000 years ago, were about 6,000, 700 and 2,500 times larger than the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens in Washington State.
So the last one was
2,500 times larger than the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens.
2,500 times larger. How many people in the US would survive an eruption of that magnitude?
And that wasn't even the largest of the Yellowstone area eruptions! Now do you want to talk about global climate change? Yes, there are worse things out there than
cows farting.
We need to take better care of the world that we live in, but nothing that we do will be very significant without a massive reduction in world population.
So are these "news" reports fake?I'm afraid so. They have an agenda, or perhaps "
a consensus of opinion" would be a better way to put it, so they leave out any inconvenient bits of information. Omitting information is a form of lying.
