SimLauncherX. Must have?

Postby OldAirmail » Sat Nov 22, 2014 2:05 pm

I've posted about SimLauncher V9.2 back when I was having a very bad time with Prepar3d V2. It did help me get around certain problems, but when LM fixed those problems, I stopped using it.

Today I found a newer version called SimLauncherX over at FSPilot e-Magazine. Or here, if you prefer.

(This is something that SimV should have, if possible.)

Needless to say - it works for both FSX & P3d.

For the most part, I've been a devotee (and donator) of Plan-G.

The two have many of the same features, but in the half hour that I've been playing with SimLauncherX I've become more and more fascinated with it.

Were it not for the long time use of Plan-G I'd probably switch over immediately.

SimLauncherX is the more capable, and therefore more complex, program.

Once learned, it should be simple enough though.

Check it out, it's priced at my favorite price - $FREE.

And A few from me.

This was left out of Prepar3d.

As I said, there's a lot there, and getting comfortable may take a little effort but it's well worth while.

And just like Plan-G, there are lots of Right Click possibilities that make it easy to find an airport in whatever area you're interested in.

Installed it, and gave it a try today.....

...had a few problems with it, (program crashes trying to update it), and found it unnecessarily complex for my daily use!

I use both Plan-G and FS-Tramp for my moving map display, Airfield layouts, and Radio Beacon frequencies, etc, and they both seem to do the job for my mostly VFR flights.
For any Flight Plans, I mostly use the default FSX, ATC program.

Un-installed SimLauncherX....was worth a try though!... ;) ...!

Ta for the heads-up OAM!

I ran into two problems;

One when I tried to load it to my F: drive.

The C: drive is an SSD, and I only use that for the OS (or at least as much as possible).

I was able to get it working on the E: drive, but then P3d crashed whenever I'd setup a flight plan.

Once P3d crashed, P3d would always crash even if I didn't use SimLauncherX.

To "repair" P3d, I had to run SimLauncherX & reset the flight to the saved "preferred" start item.

This is probably due to my tricking it into working off the F: drive. My guess is the flight plan part is looking for data on the primary drive -> C:.

SimLauncherX does do more than Plan-G, but if it won't run properly on the F: drive then I'll uninstall it too.

For those with just one drive do give it a try. The slight increase in complexity will soon disappear the more that you use it. After all, you probably won't uses every feature.
